Can I make my job offers contingent upon a positive background check or professional reference?

Yes, you can incorporate job offer contingencies such as a positive background check or professional references when hiring W-2 professionals through GloballyHired. They are a common step in the hiring process, depending on factors such as the role responsibilities, type of work, and more. These contingencies can mitigate potential risks and ensure that candidates meet the necessary qualifications and standards for the position.

Background checks provide valuable insights into a candidate’s criminal history, employment history, and education credentials. They help employers make informed decisions about their suitability for the role. Similarly, seeking positive professional references offers further validation of a candidate’s skills, work ethic, and character. These contingencies not only safeguard the integrity of the hiring process but also contribute to building a strong and reliable workforce.

It is important to ensure clear communication with candidates via messages or in the job offer regarding job offer contingencies. For temporary/interim roles, our back-office partner automatically performs a standard background screening during the onboarding process after the candidate accepts the offer. The screening includes Social Security Number Trace, County Criminal Search, and National Criminal Search. Temporary/interim staff must successfully pass this background screening before their first day starting in the role. (OPTIONAL: You can also request additional background screenings on the confirmation page after sending a temporary/interim offer to talent.)

For permanent positions, you can conduct your own background screening internally or utilize our integrated partner to request background checks. You can find this option on the confirmation page after you send a permanent offer to the talent on GloballyHired.

Note: Background screenings are not initiated until the talent accepts the job offer.

To request references directly on GloballyHired, navigate to the talent’s profile. Click the 3-dots icon below the talent’s name and select Request reference check. Then, indicate the number of references from direct managers and co-workers you require and click Request.
